How Well Do You Cope with Setbacks or Loss?

In today’s world setbacks or losses seem to be a common occurrence. Today you suddenly are thrust into a world of uncertainty and may have lost trust in the system that you had thought would be fail-safe.

For example, have one or more of these things happened to you:

  • Your last mammogram test showed positive results of a cancerous lump.

  • You are laid off from what seemed like a once secure job.

  • Your ten-year old car needs a new transmission and you don’t have the money to replace it.

  • Your auto insurance carrier notifies you that your recent fender-bender sends your rate skyrocketing.

  • Your well-behaved child is caught using controlled substances at school and is threatened with suspension.

  • You waited too long to drop that pesky math course and your college report now has a “dropped with failure” permanently attached.

  • Or, or, or …

Any one of many similar hardships and even life-changing events that suddenly appear in your life can be endless. How you handle any one of these and other similar challenges in your life is what matters most.

My favorite saying is: “Life is messy; it’s what you do to clean up the mess that counts.”

In Wedding Tales, Book One: Love’s Journey, Khalil Khoury faces challenges that change his life dramatically. As a Jesuit, he took religious vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience. In return, for the past twelve years, with one more leading to ordination as a Jesuit priest—he lived a life of study, prayer, and engaging activities while everything else he could desire in life was cared for. The Jesuits provided all his food, housing, clothing, medical care, cars and whatever else he needed. They also provided the best education money could buy. In addition to the constant fellowship of fellow Jesuits, there was nothing else lacking in his life that he cared most about.

All that changed, however, when he decided to leave the Jesuits and marry Rebecca. In Wedding Tales, Book One: Love’s Journey, you learn how, as a result of his decision, Khalil’s life was completely transformed. His every day life presented enormous challenges. He no longer had a place to live. He had no income. How would he buy food? How would he buy clothes? Where would he work? Who would hire an ex-Jesuit with two Master Degrees? And worst of all, how could he afford to marry Rebecca?

Find out how Khalil coped with these life-changing challenges. The author hopes Khalil's actions and experiences during this transformation will inspire you when you see how he managed to overcome all these and many more obstacles. Through Khalil’s experiences, you will see how Khalil discovered one of life’s most important lessons: how to face adversity and overcome it.

In addition to Khalil's challenges, what are some of the major challenges and events in Wedding Tales, Love's Journey that impact the other characters, such as those in Lebanon (Jhidius, Sithu, Marya and Assaf Khoury); those in Germany (Katarina, Karl, Karl, Jr. and Minnie Kringle, Baron Erhardt and Viktor von Schumacher); and of course the wedding guests (the Fitzgeralds, Butlers, Khourys, Dembrowskis, O'Malley).

What would you do in their circumstances? What would you do should you face real poverty, homelessness, lack of income, and/or no job? How would you cope when you don’t know where to turn next? What do specific characters in Wedding Tales: Love's Journey do? Would you have done the same thing?

For answers to these and other intriguing questions, share Rebecca and Khalil’s journey of love as told in Wedding Tales, Book One: Love’s Journey, soon to be released (Launch Date, early May, 2015).
